Be on the lookout at your Ford dealer for when the new Ford Bronco Sport off-road prototype becomes the real deal. Spy photos for this upcoming model have hit the internet and they definitely give you a pretty good idea of what it will look like. The first photo shows the front of the SUV with the grille and lights hidden.

Compact and Rugged Look

From the front, the Ford Bronco Sport Off-Road model looks compact and rugged with a fairly high roofline and four doors. The front fascia is mostly obscured by a camouflage covering, but it has an aggressive and boxy look. The headlights appear to be circular with additional lighting elements next to them. In fact, the entire look of this model resembles the old Nissan Xterra.

From the side, this resemblance is even more obvious. The rear of the vehicle is mostly straight up and down, but the windshield is slanted back. Roof racks are included as well. One of the side views includes more camouflage on the rear, but it still gives a pretty good idea of what it looks like. The rear cargo area is somewhat extended from the rear doors.

The rear windows of the vehicle appear to be on the narrow side. The tail light assembly looks a bit on the larger side, but it’s hard to see beyond the camouflage covering. A direct rear view shows a very large hatchback that is mostly taken up by body panels with only a narrow window.

Ford Bronco Sport Off-Road Model Coming?

There’s no real hint on when such a model will hit your local Ford dealer, but it definitely appears to be in the works. The Ford Bronco Sport is somewhat maligned as an off-roader these days as online forums are fond of calling it a restyled Escape. With news that the Escape could be discontinued in the near future, this conversation gets more heated.

The truth is that the Ford Bronco Sport doesn’t have a lot in common with the Escape, except for its popularity. It doesn’t share any body panels with the Escape, nor does it share A, B, or C pillars. As mentioned in the spy photo reveal, it has a very different roof design from the Escape, looking more like a Nissan Xterra than the Escape’s sleek crossover look.

There are many other differences between the Escape and the Ford Bronco Sport. However, there are some similarities, such as both models using some of the same engines. But the Bronco Sport is much more capable than the Escape with standard AWD and a unique rear differential.

Capable Off-Road and On

The Ford Bronco Sport is actually more similar to the Ford Maverick in every way except that it’s not a truck. The powertrains are very similar and the interiors are virtually identical. You could actually call the Ford Maverick a Bronco Sport with a bed. This is similar to what Ford did before with the Explorer and the Explorer Sport Trac. Even if an off-road model is coming, the Bronco Sport can already be outfitted with off-road equipment.

You can find the new Ford Bronco Sport at your local Ford dealer now.
