When Ford opened up pre-ordering options for its first fully EV pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning, every Ford dealer across the country was inundated with orders. The waitlist for one of these new electric trucks was so long that Ford had to pause taking new orders. The good news is that Ford is now opening up orders for the F-150 Lightning, but new shoppers will see some price increases.

Why the Price Hike?

Ford decided to raise prices on the F-150 Lightning for a number of reasons. The biggest factor is the increase in materials to get this truck through the production line. Ford also claims that supply-line issues and market factors play a role as well. This recent price increase brings up the base level F-150 Lightning to $61,869, an increase of $4,000. That’s not to mention the destination fee ($1,895) and any other fees applied at your local Ford dealer (tax, title, etc.).

For those keeping track, this is the fourth price increase for the Lightning. Ford increased the price three times within the first four months of this truck being available. When the base-level Lightning was released, it had an MSRP of $39,974. After the most recent increase, it’s up almost 50% to the most recent $61,869 price tag.

To make matters worse, the base-level Pro trim is sold out for retail customers, so the least expensive option for shoppers at their local Ford dealer locations is the Lariat Standard Range, which starts at $77,869. Those who want a fully-loaded EV will have to shell out $99,969 for the Platinum trim.

Production Ramp Up

Ford hopes to ramp up production to 150,000 annual units by the end of the year. While many experts believe this will be the last price increase for a while, continued issues with raw materials and the global supply line point toward the potential for higher prices later.

Thanks to this increase in production, Ford will be ready to take orders for the Ford F-150 Lightning starting in mid-April. If you are interested in getting your name on the list, stop by your local Ford dealer to learn more.

More on the Ford Lightning

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is an electric pickup truck that delivers impressive performance with its two electric motors and all-wheel drive. It looks and feels like a regular F-150 but with an independent rear suspension.

The Lightning has a driving range of 230 miles to 320 miles, depending on which battery pack you choose. This truck is so powerful that it can even serve as a backup generator, providing power to the average household for up to three days during an outage.

With this kind of projected capability and power, it’s no wonder the F-150 Lightning has a waitlist a mile long.
