The EV5 is expected to have as much power as the EV6, but the GT model might not be part of the plans. Both electric SUVs share the E-GMP platform with single and dual-motor configurations, delivering a wide range of power.
Is the new EV5 facing challenges?
When the EV5 hits the market, it won’t be the North American market. The first place this new Kia EV SUV will be sold is in China. This presents a problem for the EV if Kia intends to sell the EV5 in North America. In order for the EV5 to qualify for the EV tax credit, it will need to be made in America, which could be easy enough for Kia. This could be a challenge, but one that’s easily overcome based on Kia’s current presence in the United States.
What’s the Kia EV5 target market?
If this new Kia electric SUV arrives in America, the expected target market is the compact crossover electric SUV market, where we find the Toyota bZ4X and Volkswagen ID.4. The new EV5 appears to bring most of what we saw in the concept version, aside from toned down trim elements and smaller wheels.
