Could your used GMC truck be the perfect trade-in item for a new Canyon AT4X AEV Edition? This new harcore off-road midsize truck will hit the market soon.
Shortly after the Bison version of the Chevy Colorado ZR2 was teased, GMC released a similar teaser that is a collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). July 6 is slated to be the debut date of the Canyon AT4X AEV, according to an update from GM on May 17. Earlier, the release date was only named as later this year.
Canyon AT4X AEV Appears Similar to ZR2 Bison
The update came with a new teaser photo of the upcoming Canyon AT4X AEV. The view shows the front of the truck from a bottom angle. It shows a front winch, skid plates, chunky tires, and Multimatic dampers. The AEV badge is visible to confirm the collaboration. The general appearance of the truck is definitely similar to the ZR2 Bison version of the Chevy Colorado. The similarity makes sense considering that the Canyon AT4X trim is also similar to the Colorado ZR2.
However, the early indicators are good for the AT4X AEV to be even more hard-core than the ZR2 Bison. Either way, both vehicles represent their respective models as the most off-road-ready trim. The AEV appears to take it to another level with 35-inch tires, beadlock-capable wheels, and a lifted suspension. The model is unnamed, but might just end up being dubbed the AEV Edition like with the Sierra 1500.
Other Possible Upgrades
It’s not known yet if the AEV version of the Canyon AT4X will include a more powerful version of the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four engine that is standard on all Canyon trims currently. That engine makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, so it’s no slouch, but it might be tweaked for some higher numbers in the AEV version.
The winch shown in the latest teaser is unlikely to be included in the final model, in fact, it’s noted as a digital add-on in various reviews. However, it might be an option. The winch opening, the underbody skid plates, and the Multimatic dampers should be standard though. The three-inch lift and the 35-inch tires should give the AT4X AEV about 11 inches of ground clearance.
Possible Options
As mentioned above, the winch could be an option, and the initial teaser with the cover showed a few more possible options like a bed-mounted spare tire carrier and a sport rack. Currently, the AT4X Canyon trim starts at $55,500, so you can likely expect the AEV version to start even higher. Any available options will send the price higher still. The biggest question mark is whether the engine will get a boost, but if it doesn’t, the current one should do just fine.
The AT4X trim of the Canyon is new for 2023, so you won’t see a used GMC Canyon AT4X or its AEV version for a little while yet.
