BMW 5-Series: Experience the Next Level of Autonomous Driving

The next level of autonomous driving is heading to the BMW 5-Series sedan. This new technology allows drivers to change lanes in a new way.

Drivers and cars are becoming more connected, which brings us to the next level of autonomous driving. This new technology coming in the 5-Series sedan is called Active Lane Change Assistant. The feature suggest a lane change that can then be carried out by the driver. While this isn’t anything too special, there’s a little more to how the lane change takes place that makes it interesting.

What does the driver need to do?

In order to complete a suggested lane change in the 5-Series sedan, a driver simply needs to look in the exterior mirror to confirm the change. Once this is done, the car takes over the steering and handles the lane change, making a smooth transition to the next lane. This new feature can take away some of the challenges drivers face when considering a change to the next lane. BMW says “this comfort feature now achieves a new level of interaction between the driver and the vehicle” making it much easier for drivers to enjoy a smooth ride.

What else does the new BMW 5-Series include?

This new BMW midsize sedan also includes a highway assistant system that works at speeds up to 85 mph. This system enables drives to travel for many miles without doing any of the steering. It does require drivers to maintain a vigilance on the traffic in front of them. This seems like a pretty good trade-off for drivers to enjoy a smooth ride on any road without the need to steer or manage the pedals. Your next drive in a BMW could be one in which you do very little of the actual driving.

Are any of the other features automated?

The BMW 5-Series also allows you to park it without being inside the vehicle. This feature is becoming much more commonplace and could result in parking lots with tighter spaces in the future. Cars that can park themselves can also pull out of the spaces, which makes it easy for occupants to be outside of the vehicle before the car parks or unparks. In this BMW sedan, the automated parking system works via smartphone outside of the vehicle for up to 220 yards. That’s quite a long distance away to park or unpark the car.

What does the current 5-Series include?

These new features arriving in October are part of the next generation of this BMW midsize sedan. This new model will be available in an all-electric i5 eDrive40 or the gas-powered 5-Series. If you want a more dynamic electric version , the BMW i5 M60 will be the electric alternative to the M5.

While we wait for the new BMW sedan to arrive, we can admire what’s currently included in the 2023 model. This version is offered with six different power levels across the range, including a hybrid model, and a pair of M5 variants that reach 600 horsepower or more.

Is this an ultimate driver?

BMW has been given the distinction of having the Ultimate Driving Machine with the smaller 3-Series but is the current 5-Series good enough to be an ultimate driver. This impressive sedan is fast enough to be thrilling and offers the perfect balance with a 50:50 weight distribution from front to rear. To achieve this perfect balance, you’ve got to drive the 540i model. This version is one of the first steps upward from the base model, but it doesn’t reach the M550i pricing and packaging.

Does this BMW offer the luxury comfort desired?

The interior space of the 2023 BMW 5-Series is packed with luxurious materials and impressive styling features. You’ll enjoy supportive seats and ample room in the front seats. Those in the rear area can enjoy 36.5 inches of legroom, which is in the middle of the German midsize luxury sedans. The Audi A6 is a bit more spacious while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a little less spacious. The 5-Series provides a 14 cu-ft trunk to give you plenty of room for your stuff. If you choose the 530e plug-in hybrid powertrain, the trunk area is reduced to 10 cu-ft.

A new BMW 5-Series is on the way, bringing with it advanced technology to help you have a much more comfortable ride. What do you think of a new luxury sedan that can practically drive itself? Will this be the right vehicle for you?
