Italy is one of the hardest-hit countries with Coronavirus. While the total number of cases and deaths in Italy may seem insignificant compared to the US and China, the small population of Italy makes it easy to see the overall effect and penetration of the population was greater in this country than in others reporting total cases. Because of the pandemic that hit Italy hard, the government turned to Saire Engineering to produce more ventilators than they had bee making. In fact, the demand for these ventilated was tripled overnight, causing panic at this company.

FCA Steps in to Assist

The FCA team stepped in and offered assistance to the team at Saire Engineering. The luxury brand of Ferrari and holding company Exor retooled the plant in Cento to create a part that’s integral to the ventilators that are being produced. The part they began to make right away was the elctrovalves. This key part made it possible for the Saire team to increase the production of the ventilators being produced and reduce the total production time for ventilators by as much as 30 to 50 percent. That’s a significant difference and gives medical personnel the opportunity to respond to the challenges of the Coronavirus much faster.

The Project Gave the Ferrari Team a Job

The Cento plant of the FCA brand is typically used to produce high-performance car engines for various vehicles around the world. The Coronavirus pandemic caused this plant to be closed for a short period of time. Now that the team has this project to work on, they have reopened to get the elctrovalves produced that are needed for the ventilators that will be used in various hospitals around the country. This collaborative effort makes a huge difference in the response to this virus.

Other items Might Help

The first response to the aid that Saire Engineering needed was to tool the plant to produce one item as part of the ventilators. With the success of this project, the team in Cento might be called upon to create more parts and help to build the ventilators needed to combat the virus that’s taking over the world right now. The first step was a gradual scaling up of the daily output, which began in the first week of April, and has expanded since that time.

The Right Response from FCA

You might be familiar with FCA for the Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler models that are produced, but this is also the parent organization for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat. With the number of production facilities around the world, the FCA team can easily respond to the needs of the world and begin to produce the ventilator parts needed to make sure we can fight against a virus that’s taking lives and causing a global pandemic. FCA is helping the Italian population and having a positive effect on the world with the production of parts that are necessary to make the ventilators that are needed.
