The new 2024 Toyota Tacoma for sale has a lot of serious updates, including standard turbocharged engines across the trim lineup, plus higher-end models with a mild-hybrid system. There are also two new trim levels in the Tacoma lineup, which means there are eight to choose from. Let’s take a look at which trims or packages can optimize your towing and hauling power.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

Let’s start with the Tacoma trim that will give you the best towing and hauling capacity among the trims. This is the TRD Off-Road trim, which increases the Tacoma’s towing power to 8,209 pounds when properly equipped. Trailer backup guidance and a trailer brake controller are also available as support features to assist in safe towing. The TRD Off-Road trim comes in a double cab layout and has standard 4WD. It includes 17-inch TRD wheels, skid plates, and an electronically locking rear differential.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD PreRunner

The second-most capable Toyota Tacoma for sale is the PreRunner trim, which comes standard with an extended cab and RWD. This trim uses the higher-output iForce engine that makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. This combination gets you a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 pounds. The PreRunner comes with all-terrain tires and 17-inch wheels. The front suspension is lifted, and a locking rear differential is included.

2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5

The SR5 trim is the most popular Toyota Tacoma trim, and it includes an iForce turbocharged engine that makes 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This trim comes in several layouts, including an extended cab or crew cab, and RWD or 4WD. Crew cab models come with a coil-spring rear suspension. This trim is capable of towing up to 6,500 pounds when properly equipped.

2024 Toyota Tacoma SR

This is the base trim of the Toyota Tacoma for sale, and it features the lower-output version of the iForce engine, which means it makes only 228 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. It comes in the same selection of layouts as the SR5 trim, and a manual transmission is available with crew cab versions. However, less power usually means less towing ability, and this is one of the trims that only offers 6,000 pounds of towing.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter

If you want what is probably the most off-road-focused trim in the Tacoma lineup, the Trailhunter is it. It comes with the most powerful Tacoma engine in the iForce Max Hybrid setup. However, the Max Hybrid setup is also tagged with the lowest towing capacity for the Tacoma at 6,000 pounds. It comes in a crew cab and 4WD layout and has a choice of beds between five and six feet.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

When moving up the ladder for trims, the TRD Sport is the first on the list to offer the iForce Max Hybrid setup. Despite the extra power and efficiency of this engine, it has the smallest towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. However, if you’re looking for quickness, the 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque might be more important than an additional 500 pounds of towing ability.

When it comes to the Toyota Tacoma for sale, the answer is clear if you need towing power, the TRD Off-Road trim is the one to choose. Next up are trims with the gas iForce engine, and the least capacity belongs to the Max Hybrid engines. Learn more about the various trucks at your local dealer today.
