Muscle cars at your local Dodge dealer have been the epidemy of American ingenuity and manufacturing for years. Even though Dodge tends not to be an early adopter of new technologies, it never backed down from building loud, rumbling, powerful muscle cars.

As the times continue to change, you can expect to find something new at your favorite Dodge dealer. In an unexpected turn, Dodge is diving headfirst into new technology and moving its classic muscle cars to electric powertrains. Not every muscle car enthusiast is thrilled about the change, but we’re starting to learn more about what we can expect from the next generation of Dodge muscle cars, and it’s hard not to get excited.

Dodge Moves Away from Gas

Dodge spokespeople have already confirmed that the next generation muscle cars will lose the infamous V8 Hemi engines and move toward a completely electric platform. Of course, Dodge has to overcome the challenge of getting its fanbase to embrace an EV muscle car. The internet was full of lamenting and concern when Dodge announced that the Charger and Challenger would cease production at the end of 2023.

Dodge was able to win back a portion of its fans when it showed off the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT. This rig features a triangular logo that pays homage to muscle cars from the 1970s. It also has the blunt nose that you’d expect from a modern muscle car.

While performance specs aren’t available for the new generation of Dodge muscle cars coming to your local Dodge dealer, we’ve seen other plug-in and electric powertrains produce some mighty numbers. The Tesla Model S, for example, produces 1,019 horsepower, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S creates 818 hp, and the Cadillac Lyriq produces 500 hp, just to name a few leading EVs.

To ensure that drivers don’t miss out on the roar of a powerful muscle car engine, Dodge introduced exhaust pipes that create the noise of a powerful engine and shifting gears. Sure, these elements aren’t necessary for an EV, but Dodge wants to build something exciting over practical.

New Tech Is Coming

While Dodge hasn’t always focused on advanced tech features in its muscle cars, it is making some big upgrades to bring its next-generation rigs up to par. The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT featured a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment center that overshadows the previous eight-inch display in most Dodge vehicles. It also showed off a 16-inch instrument screen and a head-up display.

To stay competitive, most experts expect Dodge to offer other modern features like wireless charging. Of course, Dodge has always been more concerned with creating a thrilling ride than anything else. That just means we’ll have to see which direction this American auto-maker goes with the new muscle cars.
