When it comes to versatile and capable full-size SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe is easily the king of the road. Some families bring home a Tahoe because it offers the passenger size of a minivan but with the tough look of an SUV. Others love the cargo capacity, interior style, and full suite of standard tech features.

Simply put: there are tons of reasons to love the Chevrolet Tahoe.

One area that this large SUV really stands out is its massive towing capacity. This allows families to add on to their storage space with a trailer or bring along something for their next adventure.

Here is what you need to know about the Tahoe’s towing capabilities:

What’s Under The Hood?

The Chevrolet Tahoe comes in six available trim levels. This SUV comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all trims can be equipped to offer four-wheel drive. Depending on which trim level you choose, there are three available engines that impact this SUV’s towing abilities.

The Chevrolet Tahoe comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8 that offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is topped off with a ten-speed automatic transmission. If you opt for the RST or Z71 models, you can upgrade to a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 hp ad 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard on the High Country trim.

Chevy also offers an optional 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel engine on every trim except for the Z71. This engine creates 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Max Trailering Package

Those who want to get more towing out of their Tahoe can opt for the available Max Trailering Package. This suite adds a number of features that help you get more from your rig.A standard Tahoe coms with some trailering equipment already included. You don’t have to pay extra for the trailering hitch platform, two-inch trailering receiver, or the seven-wire electrical hardness with the seven-pin connection.

If you opt for the Max Trailering Package, you add everything you need to practically move mountains. On average, adding this package will add about 500 pounds of towing capacity versus models that don’t have it (except with the turbodiesel powertrain).
