While we are unsure how practical an EV sports car can be, the Porsche Taycan attempts to show us with an imaginative approach.

Recently, the Porsche team gave us a look at a new version of this EV sportscar that brings added roominess, potential off-road prowess, and the performance items we desire. This new model is the Cross Turismo version and it appears to be a wagon version of the Taycan that can be amazing.

Don’t Call it a Wagon

Porsche is well aware of the negative moniker associated with calling any car a wagon. For that reason, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo isn’t called a wagon in any of its information. Instead, they are calling this car a Cross Utility Vehicle or CUV. This is a distinction they choose to have for the vehicle rather than calling it a shooting brake or a wagon.

The Roof of the Porsche Taycan is Stretched

While this new Cross Turismo model doesn’t appear to sit any higher off the road, the roof has been lengthened to give you a hatchback rear where gear can be stored and carried. This longer roof translates to 42.3 cubic feet of space when you fold the rear seats down. This lengthened roofline also gives your rear passengers more headroom when riding along with you on the road.

A More Rugged Look for this Car

The new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo might not look like it’s higher off the ground, but it is. The car rides nearly one inch higher than the sedan and the Off-Road Design adds another half an inch to the mix. There are contrasting wheel arches that give this car a more rugged look along with a set of lower-body flaps on each side of the wheel arches to protect the body from being damaged during a drive.

The Same Power for Your Drive

If you choose to drive this new Porsche, you’ll have the benefits of the 800-volt architecture that allows for fast charging at stations that offer it. One electric motor is placed at each axle with a unique two-speed transmission being used at the rear of the vehicle. We won’t see the smaller battery pack with this model which means if you choose the Cross Turismo, you’ll have a 93.4-kWh Performance Battery setup to give you the power and drive you’re looking for.

Reviewing the Performance Numbers

This new version of the Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo will produce 375 horsepower which can increase to 469 when launch control is used. The 4S model will give you 482 horsepower and the Turbo and Turbo S models bring you 616 horsepower with all three offering impressive boosts when launch control is employed.

While most Americans seem averse to wagons, this car is not a wagon but a serious performance vehicle. Rocket down the road in this CUV and let the newest versions of the PorscheTaycan give you the experience of excitement you want when you get behind the wheel.
