Not long from now, we will see the debut of the new GMC Hummer EV which is a super-truck that will operate entirely on electricity.

This is a serious departure from the gas-guzzling excess that used to be part of the Hummer name. Going in the complete opposite direction for power, but still giving you the excess and serious upscale feeling you want, the GMC model should be an amazing truck to drive.

A Surprising Move We Admire

If you were expecting the new version of the Hummer to once again be an incredible SUV, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. We know there is an SUV version on the way, but the first of the GMC Hummer EV models will be the truck. This truck is extremely wide, has a strong stance, can handle all off-road conditions, and is ready to display the arrogance and quality of the GMC brand.

Off-Road Equipment Makes Sense in the GMC Hummer EV

The massive lower front bumper of this Hummer allows you to know this truck means business. You’ll have two integrated tow hooks to help others get out of trouble when you’re in the wilderness. Take a look at the rugged style, the massive skid plates, and the instant 4WD power that makes short work of any trail you find.

Battery Tech That’s Leading the Way

The GMC Hummer EV will be just the first of the GM models that will use the Ultium battery tech. We should see this tech offered in Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Buick models in the near future as well. In this GMC truck, this setup gives you a 24-module, double-stacked layout to send power to the three electric motors of this truck. The power output comes in at 1,000 horsepower and tons of torque which is 11,500 lb.-ft. at the wheels.

The 800-volt package of this massive truck is good for 350 miles of driving on a single charge. You can charge 100 miles of range in only ten minutes if you find a 350-kW charger, which can make it easier to enjoy this truck for a longer time on and off the road.

Walk Like a Crab in the GMC Hummer EV

You’re not going to “Walk Like an Egyptian” as the Bangles would have said, but you can walk like a crab in the Hummer EV. The CrabWalk feature allows the front and rear wheels to point in the same direction to move the truck diagonally at lower speeds. You’ll also have a launch control system called Watts to Freedom which allows this truck to rocket off the line and show how it can reach sixty mph in only three seconds.

When the new 2022 GMC Hummer EV arrives at your local GMC dealer you’re going to want to see what it has to offer. The interior is amazing, the removable doors and roof panels are fun, and the electronics give you the systems you’re looking for. This truck will be one that we watch and enjoy as it becomes the first electric super-truck to enter the market.
