One of the most capable and popular choices in the subcompact crossover SUV class is the Jeep Renegade which now has a new engine.
Small SUVs are all the rage. We love the small size, the impressive efficiency, the higher ride height, the driving position, and the capability offered. These vehicles make us feel like we’ve got a big vehicle with plenty of versatility on the road while actually driving a model that fits anywhere with its small footprint. This SUV offers the qualities we know and admire, but what it hasn’t offered in the past was the power we wanted.
The Power Conversation has Changed
The new engine is offered in the 2019 Jeep Renegade is called the GSE engine which is engineered by a team that’s combined of former Chrysler and former Fiat engineers to make it smaller and more powerful than the old FIRE engine. This new engine is brought under the hood of the Renegade in a 1.3-liter four-cylinder size. This new and smaller engine is able to offer 177 horsepower and 200 lb.-ft. of torque which is an increase from 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque that came in the old FIRE engine.
A Smoother Ride and Better Power Curve
This new engine is able to provide a smoother power curve for increased responsiveness. The 200 lb.-ft. of torque comes in at a low 1,750 rpm. This engine does require 91 octane gas in order to reach the peak power numbers, but regular gasoline can be used if a lower performance is all that’s expected. Of course, if you choose this new GSE engine for the drive, you’re going to want to make the most of what the engine has to offer with the higher level of power and the right gasoline for the job to be done.
Availability of Power for the Jeep Renegade
The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s been offered in the Renegade is still available to give you 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. The new GSE engine is more powerful and smaller engine and is going to be standard in the Limited and Trailhawk trim levels of the Renegade. This new engine hasn’t been released with fuel mileage numbers just yet, but these numbers are expected to impress us when released. All Renegade models now come with a nine-speed automatic transmission to give a smooth-shifting when driving on the road.

This small and active SUV is one that brings you active grille shutters and a stop-start system that’s now included on all but the Trailhawk models. You can choose the LED Group to give you LED headlights, daytime running lights, cornering fog lights, and taillights to give you the visibility you want.
