Until recent standards were changed which required there to be a rearview camera installed in every new vehicle offered on the road, the Alfa Romeo 4C has been a car that takes us back in time when it comes to the drive. This sports car is one that has been a model of nostalgia and consistency to be the car that brought Alfa Romeo back to the US and has been the car that we look at as one of the most impressive and fun to drive cars on the market today.
The 4C was built with pure weight-savings and performance in mind. This car only weighs in at 2,300 pounds and it doesn’t come with a display screen or power steering. With the new standards that have been set, FCA has the choice to either update the car with a rearview camera or kill it off. Strangely, this car will likely have a backup camera before it has power steering to make sure it can offer the safety required by the latest regulations to ensure we have a car that’s safer and offers a better look to the rear when put in reverse.
The 4C Lives On as More than Just a Small Sports Car
While the Alfa Romeo 4C can be looked at as the car that symbolizes a return to the North American market and its one that certainly is admired on the roads we drive, it’s much more than that. Yes, this car opened the doors with success to allow the next models from the brand to be brought to North America, but it also serves as a car we see in other areas as well. This is the car that allows the Alfa Romeo team to return to Formula 1 racing as well.
You might not have looked at the small size and qualities of the 4C as being important to the automotive industry, but it serves as the “halo car” that coincides with the sponsorship in Formula 1 racing, which makes now a terrible time to kill off the car. Thankfully, Alfa Romeo is keeping this car around to allow it to be the one we enjoy driving with the qualities we want in a simple, pure, and engaging sports car that can give us the drive and the performance we’re sure to love.
For the future models of the Alfa Romeo 4C, the car is rumored to be receiving some serious upgrades that don’t all include the rearview camera. The new 2019 model is expected to debut sometime this fall and it may have an updated suspension system, improved steering, and even an upgraded engine. While there’s no specific word about what all the upgrades will be, this is a car that should give us more of the qualities we want for the drive when it arrives as the next model year version that we’re sure to be ready to take out on the road.
