We already know there will be a new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette model that will be the C8 version we’ll see. This new and sporty car is one that is expected to give us the performance we will want and love on the road but especially on the track. Even though this car is expected to be offered in the near future, the fact is there hasn’t been much in regards to the details of the working of this new car until the most recent set of drawings were released and we get to see what this car will bring to the market.
The new CAD designs offered for the engine and suspension of the new C8 mid-engine Corvette will be one that gives us more of what we would love to have to rip off some fast laps. The biggest change that was shown in these new drawings is the fact that the Corvette will finally use a set of conventional coilovers with magnetic or spool valve dampers in favor of the old leaf spring suspension items that have been part of the Corvette since it was first offered on the market.

More of What We Want

The new suspension will also have new upper and lower front suspension arms that look similar to what we have in the C7 model which means there could be some parts that are the same in order to reduce the costs of this new model of the Corvette. The new Omega platform will be put into use to offer us more lightweight materials that will make this a car that’s lot of fun to drive and experience when it’s time for a great drive.

In addition to these details, the new C8 model with the mid-engine layout will make use of what appears to be a version of the 6.2-liter small block LT1 V8 engine that will make use of supercharging and a short style set of exhaust headers that will be an upgrade over what we have with the C7 model. Using these items, the Corvette team is looking to make the most of the horsepower that can be offered with this sports car that can be exciting on the track when it’s time for a drive where we want to go. This amazing engine will be the one that shows up and allows the Corvette to compete with some of the European supercars we’ve admired for years.

The mounting of the engine and the transaxle will offer the ability to make it easier for the car to stay flat on the track when the car corners aggressively during a fast lap. There is more that’s been redesigned in this amazing car that will be part of what we see in just over a year, but for now, we will have to be glad for the details we do have. The official debut is slate for the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, giving us an entire year to discuss what this car will bring when it finally reaches the market.
