Duck Duck Jeep is a viral trend that started in 2021 with Canadian Allison Parliament when she first placed a little rubber duck on a Jeep that looked like hers. Since then, the trend has exploded and can include any Jeep that you’d find at your Jeep dealer.

Are There Rules For Jeep Ducking?

Even though the trend started with and is mostly connected to Jeep Wranglers or the early Jeep CJ models, there are no model-specific rules for Jeep Ducking. You can “duck” any Jeep that catches your eye. The point of the trend is simply to make other Jeep owners smile. Maybe it’s the same color or model Jeep that you have, a cool classic Jeep, or a Jeep you’d like to have in the future.

The only other rule for Jeep Ducking is to keep it noninvasive. This means not placing a duck inside a Jeep (if the top and doors are off) but rather in an easily-seen location like the hood, fenders, front bumper, or side steps of the Jeep. It also means that you don’t run up someone’s driveway and put a duck on their Jeep. Ducking is more meant for that Jeep you park next to in a parking lot.

To get started, all you need to do is buy some small rubber ducks and keep an eye out for a cool Jeep. You might also consider writing something on the duck, such as “Nice Jeep”. Another common decoration is stickers or writing that outlines the traditional seven-slot Jeep grille framed by a pair of headlights.

Spread the Trend

As mentioned above, it’s common to write things on the duck complimenting the owner’s Jeep, but it’s also popular to include the hashtag #duckduckjeep to encourage the owner to post the duck and their Jeep on social media. This makes the trend more visible to current Jeep owners
and also those planning to visit a Jeep dealer for their first Jeep.

You can get plain yellow rubber ducks almost anywhere, including Amazon. But some Jeepers like to take things even further and stock up on fancy rubber ducks. Amazon is a popular place to look for Jeep ducks, and some retailers like to add things like tags with messages on them. Although this trend is primarily for Jeeps, it’s not unheard of for Jeep owners to “duck” another vehicle that is similar to theirs. For example, old Land Cruisers, Ford Broncos, and the like are all possible candidates for ducking.

What’s a Duck Pond?

Some Jeep owners have seen their Jeeps ducked so many times that they’ve built up a collection of ducks. If you see a Jeep with a line of ducks across its dashboard, that’s the duck pond. The easiest way to build your own duck pond is to get out there and start ducking other Jeeps. Some Jeepers like to keep a stash of ducks and a marker in their glove box, but how prepared you are to go “ducking” is up to you.

The Jeep world can be wild and crazy, but you can join it today when you visit your Jeep dealer to look at the latest models.

You may have heard the terms “getting ducked” or “Duck Duck Jeep”, but if you’re not in the Jeep world (and maybe even if you are), it’s probably not obvious what these terms mean.
