This is a car that many have desired, driven, and enjoyed, but there could be some drawbacks.

Just like any other car on the road, there are pros and cons to the Camaro. This muscle car dates back several decades and has been one of the most amazing vehicles to hit the automotive market in the modern era. Even though we can easily admire this Chevy muscle car and what it brings to the drive, there are some things that might frustrate some drivers.

Pro: Muscle Car Legacy Continues to be Strong in the Camaro

The Camaro delivers decades of muscle car pedigree, offering history and nostalgia to the mix. The first Camaro was sold in 1966 as part of the 1967 model year for only $2,700. That translates to $23,000 in today’s money. Although the first year wasn’t stellar, the Camaro only sold half of what the Mustang sold that year; it set the stage for the future of this car, giving us an amazing car that has been one of the most iconic muscle cars for the past 50 years.

Con: You Won’t Find an AWD Option

How did Chevy miss this boat? The Chevrolet Camaro is still only offered as an RWD muscle car. This makes it hard to handle this car in bad conditions, which also reduces the overall traction. The fact that the Camaro doesn’t have an AWD option makes it pretty amazing that this car raced around Nürburgring as fast as it did. That said, if you live in an area where you see snow and ice every year, it’s difficult to have the Camaro be your only ride.

Pro: This Muscle Car Offers a Reliable Ride

You might not expect any muscle car to have a reputation for reliability, but the Camaro does. This car can last a long time when it’s driven the way it should be. The most recent generation of this car has not seen any recalls and has a great record of avoiding breakdowns. Many of the Camaros sold over the years have been driven hard, which is not good for the car, but those that have been driven sensibly have lasted a long time.

Con: Limited Outward Visibility

The build and style of the Chevrolet Camaro result in some massive blind spots that translate to extremely poor visibility. These flaws include small windows with large rear pillars that reduce the field of view. Thankfully, the Camaro does have a rearview camera, which gives you a view of what’s going on behind you when you put the car in reverse. Some drivers adjust to the limited visibility easily, while others have trouble with it.

Pro: The Camaro Keeps Getting Better

Every generation of the Camaro is better than the one that came before it. This car seems to be smarter, faster, quieter, and lighter than all of the other models that have come before it. This means when you want to buy a Camaro, you should look for the newest model when you want the best that this car has to offer. Since 2016, the Camaro has offered a better power-to-weight ratio than the Ford Mustang.

Con: Commonality Doesn’t Translate into Value

There are so many Chevrolet Camaro models on the road that this car is one of the most common you’ll find. Of course, the same can be said of the Ford Mustang. When you want to buy a Camaro, you’ll probably find a great price for a pre-owned model, but if you want to sell your Camaro, it can be difficult to get a good price. The best thing to do is buy this car and keep it for a long time while enjoying the drive and fun it offers.

Pro: The Camaro is Incredibly Fun to Drive

This muscle car drives like a true sports car with everything you want to make it fun and active out on the road or at the track. You’ll find several different driving modes offered to give you the handling desired, whether you’re turning some fast laps or driving this car to work. This is a car that we love to drive and never want to get out of, even when the ride is over.

Con: Trunk Space is Limited

Like most muscle cars, you won’t find much room in the trunk for anything you want to take with you. Both the Mustang and Challenger offer more room in the trunk than this Chevy muscle car. Of course, the rear seat of the Chevrolet Camaro isn’t really useful for passengers. That said, you could easily put your luggage on the rear seat and have the place you need for your gear when you want to take this car out on a road trip. If you need space for cargo and stuff, you’ll find it somewhere in this car.

Pro: Excellent V8 Power Options

There’s only one V8 engine offered for the Camaro, but that V8 reaches two different power levels. The SS model uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine to churn out 455 horsepower for the ride. Add the supercharger to this engine, and you’ve got the ZL1 model that hits 650 horsepower. Which power level is right for your V8 engine in the Camaro? How fast will you go in your amazing new muscle car?

Con: Poor Snow Performance

When you can only afford one car, you should probably stay away from all muscle cars, including the Chevrolet Camaro, if you face snowy weather every year. If the Camaro is your second car, that’s perfectly acceptable, but it can’t be your primary vehicle when its time for the white stuff of winter to begin falling. The lack of ground clearance, AWD, and muscle car bend makes it hard to drive the Camaro in the snow. Make this car your secondary car and one that you only drive when the weather is right, and you’ll be fine.

Will you fall on the side of buying the Chevrolet Camaro or leaving it at the dealership? These pros and cons should help make that decision much easier for you.

The Chevrolet Camaro is an incredible muscle car with a glorious history.
