The Acura NSX is among the best performance cars and was well-loved in its native form, and Acura gave it a little more juice with the Type S variant.

Many Acura cars bring impressive luxury elements to the market, but the NSX is something much different. This is the only true supercar from the brand, giving us an amazing performance machine to admire. The latest version of the NSX has a strong six-year run, ending in 2022, but a potential all-electric replacement could arrive as early as the 2026 model year.

Here’s what makes the Acura NSX special.

The Type S has a strong engine

Both versions of the NSX use an impressive 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The version in the Type S is a hybrid model that delivers 520 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. This is more than enough power to rocket the car to 60 mph in only 2.7 seconds. There are three electric motors aiding the engine, one on the rear axle and two on the front. These motors allow the NSX Type S to deliver incredible power without using a larger engine.

The transmission feels sporty and aggressive

Gone are the days when drivers had to perform all the shifting duties on their own. The Acura NSX feature an excellent dual-clutch automatic shifter that matches the power of the vehicle. Drivers find large paddle shifters to handle the transmissions commands 50% faster than before, downshifts are performed quicker than under regular driving. The gearbox automatically shifts to the lowest gear automatically when the downshift paddle is pressed for 0.6 seconds. This allows the tires to dig in and grip the track surface more easily.

Several drive modes to get the job done

The Type S variant has the benefits of the Integrated Dynamics System with four drive modes. These are Quiet, Track, Sport, and Sport+. When the downshift paddle is held down in Sport or Sport+, the Rapid Downshift feature engages, allowing the driver to bypass multiple gears at once. This means the driver doesn’t have to move through each gear one at a time to accelerate much faster than when they don’t use this mode. This means more exciting driving on any track.

Aerodynamics in design

The Acura NSX brings attractive style to the track, but that style has a purpose. The surfaces, vents, and shape of this car are all made with the Total Airflow Management process in place. This gives us an incredible car with amazing visual appeal, but better than that; it’s a car that channels air where it needs to for the most aggressive and impressive performance at any track. Some of what you’ll see on the NSX are a revised carbon fiber front spoiler and a wider front grille, which channels more air to the radiators.

Excellent materials from Acura

This impressive supercar is made out of authentic materials with carbon fiber on the side sills, rear deck-lid spoiler, and redesigned diffuser. These items give the car a new appearance, and the carbon fiber roof lowers the car’s center of gravity. The steel mesh on the front of the air intakes replaces the resin mesh, giving this vehicle a more authentic look and feel. Other impressive materials make this Acura extremely special for anyone driving this amazing car.

A stunning interior

Step inside the Acura NSX, and you’ll find a cabin filled with high-quality materials and advanced technology. This amazing car was molded in the second generation after the first one, but it’s been significantly improved to be much better. The seating position is ergonomic and driver-focused, making it much easier to stay on track and ready for some fun on the track. Not only is the cabin ready for some time on the track, but it’s also comfortable enough to make this car easy to drive when you take it out on the road.

A limited number were made

The final year of the NSX Type S sold out in a hurry. There were only 300 versions of this car available in the United States and 350 copies for the entire world. The only place in the world where this vehicle was produced is at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, which is why this car was offered mostly for America. This low-volume offering makes the Type S a rare and sought-after car.

Will you look for one of the pre-owned versions of the Acura NSX to drive and enjoy? This supercar is sure to retain its value for many years to come and could easily be a collector’s item.
