Both the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer fit into the subcompact SUV market, but each has its own individual style, and each appeal to different drivers.
The two are very similar in size, but they have different powertrains and capabilities. Here’s a look at a comparison between the two.
It’s A Power Thing
Power for the Trax models comes from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower. It uses a continuously variable automatic transmission. If you see this SUV at the Chevrolet dealer with all-wheel drive, it will have a stronger 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine that generates 155 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic.
The Trax is a peppier crossover. Every model uses a 1.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 155 horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available, and choosing it gets you rear disc brakes instead of rear drum brakes.
Interior Space
Both the Trax and the Trailblazer have two rows of seats and room for five people. The Trailblazer is slightly wider and longer than the Trax, which means some extra cargo space in the back. You’ll get 54.4 cubic feet in the Trailblazer and 48.4 cubic feet in the Trax. Rear-seat passengers in the Trailblazer can stretch out more with the extra four inches of legroom.
Technology Is Similar
The tech features in these crossover SUVs are very similar. Both entry-level trims have a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and you’ll get a Wi-Fi hotspot no matter which trim you choose. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come with both models, but you’ll get a wireless version in the Trailblazer.
Options for Everyone
These small SUVs both come in several trim levels, but the Trailblazer has more options. The Activ model has a more rugged look and some extra off-road capabilities with the underbody skid plates, a suspension tuned to handle some off-road terrain, and upgraded tires. The RS has a unique look with red interior accents and some of the same off-road features as the Activ.
All the Safety Features
If you want advanced driver aids with your compact Chevy crossover, you can get them with the Trax and the Trailblazer. The biggest difference is that several safety systems come standard with the Trailblazer. You’ll get a forward collision mitigation system, automatic braking, and a lane-keeping system that will steer the car back into its lane if it senses any drifting. Automatic high-beam headlights are another standard feature.
The Trax doesn’t come standard with these safety systems, but if you opt for the Driver Confidence Package, you’ll get a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The Trailblazer offers this package for the higher level trims, and you can also get the Technology Package for the Activ and RS, which comes with an adaptive cruise control system that will keep you a set distance from the car in front of you.
