The Police Are Getting a Chevy Silverado

For the first time in history, police forces around the country will have a Chevy Silverado to drive when they pursue criminals.

This new vehicle is the 2023 Silverado PPV (police pursuit vehicle), and it’s made to track down the criminals, even when they try to take off on some trails. Rather than only chasing down these law-breakers on roads, this truck is packed with features that make it ideal for heading to places where other vehicles can’t go to close pursuit and bring these people to justice. Let’s look at the exciting new truck your local police force may have soon.

It’s Not the First Chevy Used for Pursuit

Since 1997, the Chevy Tahoe PPV has been on the prowl. It might seem odd that it’s taken so long for the Silverado to join the mix, but many police forces have relied on other trucks to help them pursue justice. Now, the Silverado PPV joins the mix and gives those that protect and serve something new and better to use when they want to catch criminals. Because the Tahoe has been part of the mix for a long time, the new truck shares some qualities with the full-size SUV.

Powertrain and Working Aspects of this New Truck

Similar to the Tahoe, the new Chevy Silverado PPV uses a 5.3-liter V8 engine mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain pushes out 355 horsepower while giving officers the benefits of 4WD to track down criminals that take to the hills and trails in the wilderness. Both vehicles also share a set of black 20-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear All-Terrain tires. Oversized 16-inch front rotors wear six-piston Brembo brakes. These rotors are three inches larger in diameter when compared to the regular Silverado.

All Versions of This Police Truck are Configured the Same Way

Every model of this PPV Silverado has the same setup to give the police force the capability desired for excellent performance in pursuit of criminals. These trucks are all Crew Cab models with a short bed. The bed is only 5-foot 8-inches in length, which allows the truck to have the wheelbase that makes pursuit into the wilderness more functional. The max tow rating is 9,300 pounds which is 1,100 more than the Tahoe. Some orders for this truck will include a 2.0-inch suspension lift which increases the ground clearance to 11.4 inches and the approach angle to 25.9 degrees, making it easier for this truck to handle rugged off-road challenges.

Off-Road Hardware is Included in this Truck

Not only is this version of the Chevy Silverado lifted off the ground and offered with impressive packaging. This truck gives officers skid plates to protect the underbody parts of the truck, a set of Rancho shocks that come from the Z71 package, and a locking rear differential. Police forces can opt for a hard tri-folding tonneau cover for the bed or the multifunction tailgate, both of which have their benefits on this truck.

No Frills for the Interior of this Police Truck

Your local law enforcement officers don’t need criminals messing up their leather upholstery, which is why the Silverado PPV has a no-nonsense approach to the cabin. There’s a package of easy-to-clean items, including cloth seats and vinyl flooring. Other than that, there aren’t any creature comforts. The front jump seat is removable, giving more space to officers when they need it. There’s plenty of room for officers to add the equipment and items required when they are out on the roads and trails to pursue criminals.

Could There Be a Civilian Version of this Police Truck?

You won’t want to see this truck bearing down on you with the lights blazing, but you might want to drive a similar version with the off-road qualities and plain packaging offered. Will Chevy give us a version of this police truck that can be purchased and used by civilians? There’s already a version in the lineup that provides us with much of what we want without the added features that we aren’t looking to pay for when it’s time for a truck that works great on an off the roads.

Is the Custom Trail Boss Close to the PPV Model?

The difference between the Custom Trail Boss version of the Chevy Silverado and the Work Truck base model is the addition of some off-road items. This trim adds the Z71 package with an off-road suspension, recovery hooks, skid plate, auto-locking rear differential, and trailering package. The Custom Trail Boss is available with the 5.3-liter V8 engine, making it a truck with the same power. The main difference would be the brakes and ride height, which favors the Silverado PPV used by local police officers.

Several Trims Offered, Others Aren’t Close to the PPV Model.

Of course, if you want more in the Silverado you drive, several trims make it possible to have much more in your truck. You could have the Custom model, the LT, RST, LTZ, or High Country models. The LT trim gives you the interior upgrades that significantly improve this part of the truck. If you’re going to take your family out on the road often, this model adds a few items that will make this truck more enjoyable to drive on the road. The LT trim adds:
