Buick Cars – Will Buick Make Cars Again?

Will Buick Make Cars Again

When shoppers stop by a Buick dealer, they know they’ll be presented with a small lineup of luxury crossovers and SUVs. It hasn’t always been this way, though. Buick used to have an impressive collection of coupes of sedans. People still talk about the Buick cars like the stylish Buick Cascada convertible, comfortable Buick LaCrosse, and sophisticated Buick Regal.

With many auto manufacturers focusing on the SUV market, fewer sedans are in production today than in the past. The question on most Buick enthusiasts’ minds is whether or not new sedans will ever pop up at their favorite Buick dealer again?

A Quick History of Buick Cars

Buick, a division of General Motors, first opened its doors in 1908. It took on the luxury arm of the GM brand. Buick found a sweet spot above GM’s mainstream brands but slightly below the luxury Cadillac division.

Over the years, Buick developed a strong showing of awesome cars. Vehicles like the LaSabre, LaCrosse, and Century were incredibly popular family sedans. Sadly, the last Buick sedan in production, the Regal, stopped being produced for the 2020 model year.

It’s not that Buick sedans weren’t worth owning. These cars had a strong fanbase and plenty of elements that defined the brand. For example, the Tri-Shield emblem is one of the most recognizable logos in the auto industry. More importantly, Buick cars offer the kind of performance you couldn’t find anywhere else. Vehicles like the Gran Sport, Skylark FSX, and Grand National are still considered some of the most powerful rides to come out of GM plants.

From Buick Cars to SUVs

While there may be some drivers out there who are sad that they can’t pick up the newest Buick sedan anymore, GM is pretty happy with the decision to focus on crossovers and SUVs. The sales numbers show that drivers are more interested in these newer kinds of rides over typical sedans. It’s not just Buick vehicles, either. Most auto manufacturers are moving towards offering more non-sedan body styles.

Buick’s biggest marketing push has been to help sedan owners make the change from car to crossover. Since both vehicles offer similar handling, refined style, and tons of tech features, it’s been an easy transition. Options like the Buick Encore and Enclave have taken off, which means there is no regret from management.

The Return of the King

While American shoppers can’t currently buy a Buick sedan, things may change. All we have to do is look at the Buick market in China. In 2021, Buick launched a new LaCrosse sedan in the Great Wall country. That model has been so popular that it’s back for a 2022 model. There is even a new LaCrosse Avenir model available at some Chinese Buick dealer
