Both the Acadia and the Traverse offer a number of distinct trims. At first look, the Traverse might have better pricing. Its base-level trim, the LS, starts at just $34,895. As you move up the five total trims on this Chevy SUV, you’ll eventually rise to the High Country model. This top-of-the-line trim starts at $52,395.
The GMC Acadia did away with its SL trim for the 2022 model year. The former second-level SLE trim now becomes the intro model. This trim starts at $35,995. This may appear to be more expensive than the Traverse’s intro model, but the SEL is better compared to the $37,395 Traverse LT.
Even if you go with the high-class Denali trim, you’ll only be out $47,795, which offers decent savings when compared to the Chevy option.
Fuel Economy
While both of these popular SUVs offer several engine options, the Acadia always has the better fuel economy numbers. That doesn’t mean the Traverse doesn’t put up some impressive stats. Its High Country model has an EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway. That may not be as good as some of the new hybrid SUVs on the market, but it’s pretty impressive for something this large.
The Acadia’s four-cylinder engine helps it earn an EPA-estimated 22/29 mpg city/highway. These two vehicles are definitely pretty similar, but those few extra miles per gallon can really make a difference in your fuel costs.
Safety Scores
Another area where the GMC Acadia takes the lead is with its crash test scores. This beast earned the highest possible five-star rating from the NHTSA. The Traverse also earned some impressive scores across the board, but it could only muster four stars in frontal crash tests.
Which One Is Right For Me?
If you’re considering a new GMC Acadia or Chevy Traverse, you won’t be disappointed with either option. The Traverse is known for having a little more interior cargo space and higher comfort ratings. Of course, these perks come with an extra cost.
The Acadia is great for drivers who want an SUV that can serve as a workhorse or a show pony. Due to its tremendous value and fuel efficiency, it’s often the more popular choice for shoppers who want a good deal.
