Is the Honda Civic Type R Too Ugly to Drive

Is the Honda Civic Type R Too Ugly to Drive

There’s no denying the fact that the Honda Civic Type R is a polarizing vehicle when it comes to the style it offers.

This car has a number of items including fake vents, a massive wing, several scoops, and too many diagonal lines for it to be attractive to most. Even so, this is a Type R and it’s a car that has the power and the fun factor that you’re looking for, which means you often forgive it for being as ugly as it is. Thankfully there might be a minor style upgrade in the works to give us a more attractive appearance.

A Facelifted Type R at Nurburgring

Last year, spy shots were shared that showed a minor refresh that could take place for this Honda and now it seems some of these items have carried over to be used on the test car that’s been running laps at Nurburgring. In addition to body changes, the Honda team brought a bright yellow version of the car to the track to give us a car that looks like fire and sun as it races around the track.

Some Areas are Curiously Hidden

As you would expect with any test vehicle, some aspects of the new Honda Civic Type R were bathed in camouflage to hide them from our view. The roof of the yellow model was one item that was covered, which makes us wonder if a carbon-fiber roof is being considered. Another area that’s been under wraps is the air scoop in the hood which might offer us a different and new appearance for the future. The low spoiler is being tested in white paint instead of red, which could be an appealing appearance for some, and the conversation of wing or no wing is being considered as well.

Enhanced Items We do See

The testing models of the Honda Civic Type R that made their way to Germany have something new in the vents that used to simply be window dressing for this car. There appears to be a protrusion in this area, but much of this is covered and difficult for us to see in the pictures that were taken. The front of this car is also being upgraded to give it an appearance that will be more appealing to more of us who want to drive this car.

The Refresh Doesn’t have a Date Set by Honda Yet

For now, we don’t know if or when the refreshed version of the Honda Civic Type R will make its way to the market, but this car is one that we can certainly expect to see in the US when it’s refreshed. The American market has become one of the most popular for the Type R and will continue to be a strong performer. The Civic Type R might continue to be polarizing in its style, but it may be less so with the upgraded and refreshed look that will be offered.
