Ad Size Matters
When you’re building your dealership’s PPC campaigns, you need to keep in mind what ad sizes are available and which ones will benefit you more so than others. Since you’re selling cars, you may want to focus on longer ads instead of taller ads. It depends on what you’re advertising, whether it’s one or multiple cars, a promotion and whether the ad will be visual with text or text only. Some ads perform better than others, so here’s your guide to choosing the best ad sizes for your dealership’s PPC campaigns.
Medium Rectangle (300 x 250)
Google has collected data on its top performing ad sizes and one most popular and useful for dealership PPC vendors is the medium rectangle with dimensions of 300 x 250 pixels. These dimensions are good for dealerships because this ad size can be used for all ad types: text, display, and mobile text and display ads. This versatility eliminates the unnecessary need to create a completely different ad for mobile, and it lets you fully utilize the ad that you’ve worked hard to create. The rectangular shape also gives you the freedom to create an ad featuring a front view of a vehicle or side profile shot. You also have a bit of room to play with text without overcrowding the ad, just don’t go overboard. Google states this particular size ad “performs well when embedded within text content or at the end of articles.”
Large Rectangle (336×280)
If you’re advertising a larger vehicle, it might be a good idea to use a large rectangle sized ad. You have more pixels to play with, so you’re not constrained to a smaller ad. You can promote specials in a family of vehicles or take this opportunity to showcase a bigger image of a new ride. You want the focus of the ad to mention the key elements of your campaign. If your ad is text only, it’s important to include the most important information at the beginning of the ad. Call to actions and contact information should be bold, so people know how to reach out and learn more. These ads also perform best when embedded within text or at the end of articles.
Large Mobile Banner (320×100)
You can’t forget about the tons of users browsing search engines on their mobile devices. This large mobile banner is smaller in height than the two rectangle ad size options, but still gives you room to experiment and craft the best ad. It’s actually a more beneficial ad size compared to the standard mobile banner, which is only a height of 50 pixels. You want to make sure your ads on mobile are designed thoughtfully with mobile users in mind. People scroll endlessly and their attention needs to be captured quickly. Use this ad size to draw in those mobile users with vibrant vehicle images, and leave the text out since it’ll be glossed over anyway.
Optimize Your Options
When you’re deciding which ad sizes to use for your dealership’s PPC campaigns, you want to keep in mind what type of ad you’ll be running whether it’s text, display or mobile. Once that’s settled, you can start playing around with ad designs and figure out what works best for you. Keep these three ad sizes in mind when you’re planning your PPC campaigns and you’ll be setting yourself up for ad clicking success.
