The 2019 model year will give us a chance to see a new Trailer – Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and other Silverado models give us a serious improvement over the current list of technologies offered to help us hook up and tow a trailer. For many years, towing a trailer has meant you needed help in hooking it up, parking it, and disconnecting it. The new technologies offered are designed to make the towing experience easier and safer for you. This is no longer about the towing capacity and payload, but now about making towing more convenient for you.
New Trailer Tech in the Silverado
Trailer Light Test
No longer do you need your friend or family member to stand behind the fifth-wheel and give you the thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Now you know for certain the lights are working. The Advanced Trailering System works in conjunction with the myChevrolet smartphone app to conduct a light test for you.
Trailer Cameras
The new Silverado is equipped with three cameras as standard fare to give you a 270-degree view behind the truck. One camera is mounted as a standard rearview camera. The other two are mounted to the side view mirrors. There’s an optional fourth camera that can be added and mounted whatever you are towing. This gives you an even more comprehensive view of the boat and what’s going on behind your truck.
Hitch Guidance
The hitch view camera provides a birds-eye-view of the hitch and trailer with new backing guidelines to give you a more precise way to connect the ball below the hitch. This feature can save you a ton of time when hooking up whatever you are towing. That means that you don’t have to get in and out of the truck to see if things are lined up properly.
Auto Parking Brake Assist
Have you ever lined up a camper and put your truck in park only to have it roll an inch or two? With this auto parking brake system, you won’t have that problem. If you’re in the Hitch View mode the truck automatically sets the parking brake so that you don’t roll into or away from the hitch when hooking up your camper.
Trailer Theft Alert
Chevrolet includes a Trailer Theft Alert system that activates the truck’s lights and horn if the harness or whatever you are towing is disconnected. If you have an OnStar Safety & Security Plan subscription you’ll receive alerts via phone, text, or email when cargo has been stolen and you’re looking to have it returned to you.
Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring
Your Silverado has tire pressure monitoring. However, a tire blowout when you’re towing down the highway can be a disaster for your adventure. Chevrolet includes a trailer tire pressure monitoring system to inform you of tire pressure and temperatures. This helps you avoid having a blowout or having the tires overheat. This is an optional system. You will have to get it installed on your whatever you tow at the deale. It can certainly be worth the added expense.
