The Volkswagen Jetta has been the compact sedan that’s offered us a pleasant ride, engaging driving dynamics, excellent technology, and the qualities we love to enjoy for many years. Most of the time, you don’t think of a Jetta as being the car that can offer excitement or fun on the road, but the VW team has something different to say about it. Recently, they took a Jetta to Pikes Peak and broke the overall record and now they have their sights set on another location where the Jetta can show off and let us know it’s a lot of fun.
Going to a Historically Amazing Racing Location
When you think of open racing in Southern California, one place that should come to mind is the Bonneville Salt Flats which is the location of an annual racing event that’s certainly fun and filled with a different style of racing than what we’re used to. With the Jetta already taking the trophy at Pike’s Peak, this is the perfect place to show that a Jetta can be the right vehicle to drive and race during the Bonneville Speed Week. This annual Speed Week takes place in August, which gives the VW team some time to get the Jetta they want.
The Jetta that’s being created for this particular Speed Week is being built with the collaboration with the California-based tuning shop of THR Manufacturing. The goal is to build a Jetta that can handle the challenges the Bonneville Salt Flats offer and make sure it can be the fastest car in the class to break the current record. The team is using the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine to power the car, and the goal is to reach a speed of over 208.472 mph during the race.
Adding More Intrigue to the Campaign
The current campaign from VW tells you that you “Betta Getta Jetta” as a terrific and simple play on words. The use of the Jetta at Bonneville will be a strong attempt to underline the sporty credentials and have customers more excited for the fun they can have. The Jetta GLI is the performance-oriented model that will allow you to have fun if you’re looking for a new one in the 2019 model year, and after you witness what the Jetta can do at Bonneville, you can imagine that you’re the driver of the car that crosses the line at a record-breaking speed.
In addition to a heavily upgraded engine, the Bonneville Jetta will feature a lowered suspension, aerodynamically optimized wheels, ‘salt flat’ tires, and a limited slip differential. Inside, as you would expect, the car has been stripped and fitted with the safety equipment that will be needed to allow the car to drive and race the way it’s designed to. There’s a racing seat, safety harnesses, a fire extinguisher, and a parachute. This is a car we can all look forward to watching during the Bonneville Speed Week that will take place from August 11 to 17.
