One of the most admired car brands in the world is Lamborghini. This brand has been producing supercars that are aggressive and inspiring for several decades and is one of the only true rivals to what Ferrari can bring to the market. While most of us will always admire this brand from afar, you might want to learn more about what Lamborghini has to offer.
Check out some of the cool facts that you may or may not know about this lauded brand:
Built to Rival –The Lamborghini brand was started in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini to rival Ferrari. At the time, the Ferrari brand had built up a history of seriously attractive and impressive sports cars that were capable of offering up the performance and prestige needed on the track and the road and were some of the most admired, which is what Lamborghini wanted as well.
Agricultural Roots –The start for this brand occurred right after World War II when The brand began as a tractor building company. This is where the company made the money to begin the sports car arm, which is certainly an odd offering on two very different sides of the machine world. You can still buy a Lamborghini tractor because they are still built today.
First Car –The 350 GTV was the first car offered by this brand. This impressive model was a grand tourer that was able to pave the way to the production line and begin the story of what would become the brand that we all know and admire to this day. Seeing this first car let the world know that a new sports car brand was in town.
Entering Production –A year after offering us the 350 GTV to see and enjoy, the first production car was built and sold which was the 1964 350 GT. This gorgeous coupe was long and lean and ready to take to the roads and the tracks with a look that was smooth and elegant. This car had a V12 engine and was built in only 150 models over two years, but this signaled the beginning.
Short Design –The Lamborghini Miura, which is still considered to be one of the most attractive cars to ever make its way to market, was designed in only four months. That’s a seriously short period of time even in today’s automotive world and this car was one that had a mid-engine layout and the looks that we have admired for several decades.
Bankruptcy –While this brand took off like a rocket out of the gates and still had the strong support of the tractor business, the brand had to file for bankruptcy in 1978. This wasn’t entirely a surprise considering the automotive world was faced with the gasoline crisis of the 1970s and the regulations that were practically strangling the sports car world.
Going Off Roading –The Lamborghini brand was eventually rescued from bankruptcy and then built a vehicle for the military that was desired by many who had a sports car from this brand already. The LM-002 is a vehicle that had the ability to handle the trails and the challenges of the trails and wilderness wherever it went and was a heavily sought after SUV.
Chrysler Took Over –As Chrysler was seemingly buying up stake in every company they could, the years from 1987-1994 showed the influence from Chrysler on Lamborghini. The purchase wasn’t entirely bad as Chrysler did sink a large sum of money into production and new products.
Another Owner –After being sold by Chrysler to an Indonesian company Lamborghini was finally purchased in 1998 by the current group that owns it; the Volkswagen Group, where it now calls home and shares technology and information with the other twelve brands that fall under the watchful eyes of the by VW logo.
Thriving –Although Lamborghini was shuffled around and has done so since the 1970s, the brand is now thriving and offering us interesting and exciting models that we know and admire. This brand is one that brought a continued growth in sales and deliveries to continue to be a brand that we consider to be a lot of fun to admire and enjoy.
