The Mercedes-Benz EQ sub-brand is going to be the way this brand brings us EVs to enter the world of electric driving for the future.
With two of the most recent European automotive shows behind us, its becoming clearer how Mercedes-Benz intends to enter the EV market and become the luxury brand of choice when they turn concepts into production models.
At the Paris show, we were introduced to their EQ Crossover SUV which is an EV model with two motors and the most recent show in Frankfurt gave us a look at the newest model from the EQ sub-brand which is the EQA concept. While both are currently concept models, we can expect them to arrive on the market in the next few years.
The EQA Concept from the Mercedes-Benz EQ Sub-Brand
As it made its way to the stage it was easy to see the EQA Concept was built to carry in the right driving features and impressive qualities that make it an excellent choice with its tuned down styling and smooth lines.
Don’t get me wrong, the EQA certainly offers a futuristic style, but appears to be much closer to a production-ready model than what the EQ Crossover showed us back in Paris. Even though the EQA appears to be closer to production, all sign’s point to the crossover being produced first.
The new EQA Concept that made its way to the stage in Frankfurt is one that brings in an EV driving quality and performance from a pair of electric motors to deliver 268 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque. With this permanent AWD setup, this car will be able to reach sixty mph in as little as five seconds.
The driving range expected to be offered for this car is around 250 miles while a rapid charger could restore as much as 62 miles in less than ten minutes of charging to make this a competitive member of the EV world.
Expected Arrivals
Currently, we expect to see the first series-produced model that will either be the EQC or a variant of it as early as the 2019 model year. The EQA may show up after that but no word has been shared to let us know if the laser fiber lighting that captured our attention in Frankfurt will be part of the production model.
As a sedan that is built with the dimensions we want, the EQA shouldn’t be far behind, especially if Mercedes-Benz expects to keep up with some of the other automakers and their expected release dates. Mercedes-Benz certainly does expect to be able to keep up by offering us more than ten EV models that could be on the market as early as 2022.
Get Ready for EV Driving from the Mercedes-Benz EQ Sub-Brand
Some of the elements we’ve seen on both of these new concept models are going to be in place on all of the models we’ll see in the future from this brand. The new EQ brand will give us the expected luxury we’ve come to know from Mercedes-Benz to make sure you can continue to drive a high-quality vehicle with more of the driving performance you want and the lack of emissions we expect for the future.
